A tent is to be built in the form of a cylinder of radius 10 metre surmounted by a cone of the same radius. If the height of the cylindrical part is 5 metre and slant height of the conical part is 15 metre, how much canvas will be required to build the tent? Allow 20% extra canvas for folding and stitching. (left( ight. Take π=227)left.pi=frac{22}{7} ight)

a

714.43 sq. metre

b

942.85 sq. metre

c

772.14 sq. metre

d

783.86 sq. metre

Answer : Option B
Explanation :

Curved surface area of cylindrical part = 2Srh

=2×227×10×5=22007=2 imes frac{22}{7} imes 10 imes 5=frac{2200}{7} sq. metre

Curved surface area of conical part = πrl

=227×10×15=33007=frac{22}{7} imes 10 imes 15=frac{3300}{7} sq. metre

Total curved surface area

=(22007+33007)=left(frac{2200}{7}+frac{3300}{7} ight) sq. metre =55007=frac{5500}{7} sq. metre

∴ Area of required canvas

=(55007×120100)=left(frac{5500}{7} imes frac{120}{100} ight) sq. metre =942.85=942.85 sq. metre
