The Election Commmission of India is :

The Election Commission is a permanent and an independent body established by the Constitution of India directly to ensure free and fair elections in the country. However, it also functions as a quasi-judicial body in matters related to elections and electoral disputes. Besides, it acts as a court for settling disputes related to granting of recognition to political parties and allotment of election symbols to them.
