The marked price of an article is 80% more than its cost price. What should be the discount (in %) offered by the shopkeeper so that he earns a profit of 44%?

a

30

b

10

c

44

d

20

Answer : Option D
Explanation :

Let the C.P. of article be Rs. 100

∴ Its marked price = Rs.180

Its S.P = Rs. 144

∴ Discount = Rs. (180 – 144) = Rs. 36

If the discount percent be x%x \%, then

180×x100=36frac{180 imes x}{100}=36

x=36×100180=20%Rightarrow x=frac{36 imes 100}{180}=20 \%
