Which Governor General of India started the Postal Service in India ?

Lord Clive established a postal plan (known as Jamidara Pratha) on 24 March, 1766 in West Bengal. The postal system established by him was further developed by Warren Hastings by establishing the Calcutta G.P.O. under a Postmaster General in 1774. Postal Service was open to the public for the first time against payment. However, Lord Dalhousie, Governor-General of India from 1848 to 1856, is considered as the real founder of Postal Service in the country. During his period, a uniform rate of half-anna per letter was introduced, postage stamps were issued for the first time and a postal department was established for the whole country.
