Aurangzeb imposed Jaziya upon the Hindus and encouraged Hindus to convert to Islam. Some writers are of the opinion that the reimposition of Jaziya and other measures of Aurangzeb were designed to convert India from dar-ul-harb (land inhabited by infidels) to dar-ul-Islam (a land inhabited by Muslims).
