06

Reservation, PwBD & Scribe Facility

Reservation is provided as per extant Government Orders for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen, and Persons with Benchmark SSC Disabilities (PwBD). ESM vacancies are reserved only for Grade ‘D’ posts.

The posts have been identified suitable by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for several disability categories — including Blind / Low Vision, Deaf / Hard of Hearing, certain locomotor disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disability, and multiple disabilities. Functional requirements include sitting, standing, walking, bending, reading & writing, seeing, hearing, and communication.

Scribe & Compensatory Time

PwBD candidates with blindness, both-arm locomotor disability, or cerebral palsy are entitled to a scribe / assistive technology. Candidates with less than 40% disability who have difficulty writing are also covered (per OM dated 10.08.2022). A compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination is granted to all eligible candidates, whether or not they actually use a scribe.

New process: Own scribes must complete OTR with Aadhaar authentication on SSC's website. The candidate must enter the scribe's OTR number while generating the Admission Certificate. If a scribe isn't Aadhaar-authenticated, SSC will provide one.

07

08

Selection Process — Step By Step

  1. Computer Based Examination (CBE) — objective MCQ test scoring used for the merit list.
  2. Skill Test in Stenography — qualifying only; shortlisting based on CBE marks.
  3. Online Post Preference Form — submitted to SSC before the First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA). Once submitted, preferences cannot be changed.
  4. FRTA / Final Allocation — based on CBE merit and the candidate's preferences, applying the sliding mechanism notified by SSC.
  5. Document Verification (DV) — conducted by the User Department/Organization after the final result.
  6. Probation — selected candidates serve a 2-year probation period, during which they may have to undergo training and pass departmental tests.

Tie Breaker Rules

If two candidates score equal aggregate marks, ties are resolved in this order: (a) marks in Part-III English, (b) marks in Part-II General Awareness, (c) older date of birth, (d) alphabetical order of names.

Smart Tips & Things To Avoid

✓ Recommended

  • Apply well before the closing date — server load surges in the final 48 hours.
  • Opt for Aadhaar-Based Authentication; it shields your application from rejection on photo/signature grounds.
  • Capture a live, frontal photo in good light without cap, mask, or glasses.
  • Submit only one application; multiples lead to outright rejection and debarment.
  • Give the maximum number of post preferences to improve allocation chances.
  • Keep a copy of your application and answer response sheet for at least 3 years.

✗ Avoid

  • Do not photograph an existing photograph — such applications are rejected.
  • Do not carry mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, or any electronic gadget into the exam hall — this triggers a 3-5 year ban.
  • Do not give false information; impersonation invites a 7-year debarment.
  • Do not fill different name/DOB across recruitments — that's a 1-5 year ban.
  • Do not assume sons or dependents of ex-servicemen are eligible for ESM relaxation — they aren't.

A final word for aspirants

The SSC Stenographer 2026 cycle is generous in its inclusivity — a low ₹100 fee, fee waiver for women and reserved categories, robust scribe support, and a transparent two-stage selection. The window is short. Read the official notice carefully, gather your documents early, and apply with patience and precision.
