Selection Process
Selection involves four stages:
- Tier I – Preliminary Exam (100 marks, 60 minutes): English Language (30 Q), Reasoning (35 Q), Quantitative Aptitude (35 Q) — each section separately timed at 20 minutes. Qualifying in nature.
- Tier II – Main Exam:
- Generalists: Objective test of 250 marks (200 questions, 150 minutes) covering English, Reasoning, Quant, General Awareness (financial sector focus) and Computer Knowledge, followed by a 30-mark online Descriptive Test (letter + essay in English).
- Hindi Officers: Objective test of 200 marks (150 questions, 120 minutes) including a 100-mark Professional Knowledge section on Hindi/English grammar, Official Language rules and translation, plus a 50-mark Descriptive Test (essays, letter writing and translation in Hindi/English).
- Interview: Candidates up to three times the vacancies will be called.
- Final Merit: Prepared on Main Exam and Interview marks in a 75:25 ratio. Prelims marks are not counted. For Generalists, the Descriptive Test is qualifying only; for Hindi Officers, descriptive marks are included in the Mains total.
There is negative marking of 1/4th mark for every wrong answer in both Prelims and Mains, with section-wise and overall cut-offs. Ties in the final score are resolved by date of birth, with the older candidate ranked higher.

Selected AOs are placed in the pay scale of ₹82,485 – ₹1,56,745. Gross emoluments work out to approximately ₹1,10,000 per month at metropolitan centres, along with gratuity, LTS, medical benefits, group personal accident insurance, NPS and leased accommodation as per company rules.
Probation and bond: One year of probation (extendable), during which officers must clear the Licentiate Examination of the Insurance Institute of India for confirmation.
